2010, the significant redesign of the central bus station and front plaza of the train station was developed in an interdisciplinary workshop together with the architectural firm Gössler Kinz Kreienbaum and the landscape architecture firm Hahn, Hertling von Hantelmann. The lighting should support this design and present the square through the nighttime image as an introduction to the city center of Hildesheim.
Today, cylindrical light heads on double booms frame the completed square. The subtle brightening of the architecture gives a slight impression of the space, but the structures should not be in the foreground.
The presence of the tall and evenly spaced luminaires emphasizes the edges of the square in a striking manner. The blue shimmer in the upper part of the luminaire heads is echoed in the Hildesheim city logo, evoking additional attention and acting as a delicate band around the square.
The bus platform canopies are bright in the center to meet all the visibility and legibility needs of the passengers, and the freely distributed light sources in the outer frame of the canopy provide a soft yet equally high level of illumination in the bus stop area.
