Trammplatz, which was badly in need of repair, was also redesigned as the city hall forecourt. On the basis of a preliminary urban design (by Thomas Göbel-Groß), landscape architect Kamel Louafi developed a striking floral design for this square, which grants the square and the surrounding urban area a unique design quality. Trammplatz now represents the link between Friedrichswall, the city center, the New Town Hall, and the surrounding Maschpark. The remarkable flower pattern created by natural stone pavers creates a singular atmosphere in the “City of Gardens”.

The eight-meter light columns along Friedrichswall were made of metal segments, so as not to disturb the view from the city to city hall. The lower two meters of the column are closed to house the mechanics, and thus nearly disappear into the surroundings. The shell-like tube segments carry six LED boards in the upper two meters of the pole, which meet both the lighting needs of the square and the standards for street lighting.

The seating sections in the stairs are equipped with a light line to subtly trace the edges of the square at night. The light intensity of the historic candelabra directly in front of the town hall was increased by means of warm-white LED substitute lamps, whereby the town hall and town hall forecourt form a harmonious and elegant ensemble.
