Hildesheim | Light Stele Angoulême Square
A light stele for the redesigned Angoulême Square.
Since December 2019, the approximately six-meter-high, cream-white light sculpture in the form of a rolled sheet of paper with the metal inscription “Angoulêmeplatz” has stood at the northern end of the square. During the day, visitors to the square are greeted by a remarkable sculpture representing a stylized paper roll. At night, a warm light glows from within the roll, arousing curiosity about its contents. The paper roll appears to be loosely wound, creating a moving sweep at the open end of the sheet. The design as a paper roll is a reminiscence of Hildesheim’s French twin city Angoulême as a center of the paper industry since the 16th century respectively International City for Comic and Image. Since 1974 the “Festival International de la bande Dessinie d`Angoulême” takes place here annually.
The stele is made with a graffiti and sticker protection, the 120 cm long and 9 cm high text was welded on both sides and can thus be read from both sides correctly around.
The stele was designed by Studio DL, the elaboration and fine tuning took place in close cooperation with Bergmeister Leuchten.
