Sartorius AG – Biodynamic Support at the Workplace
As part of the expansion of Sartorius AG, a leading international pharmaceutical and laboratory supplier, the site to the south of the company’s previous headquarters is being developed into the “Sartorius Campus”. Values such as productivity, flexibility, creativity and communication are central to the design by the renowned architectural firm Bünemann und Collegen (B&C) and are to be supported and promoted with the help of the architecture, furnishings and infrastructure. Recently, the architecture was awarded the German Design Award in 2018 in the category “Communications Design – Architecture”.
With the inauguration of the building housing production of laboratory equipment, the campus is growing steadily and setting new standards for modern, efficient work. The lighting concept for the open-plan offices, for example, offers maximum flexibility for all room concepts in compliance with all relevant standards. The pendant luminaire developed especially for the project provides continuous direct as well as indirect illumination with maximum homogeneity, adapting to the influences of the ambient lighting. The light colors are adapted to the natural course of the day for humans. They are, therefore, effective in terms of light biology and support the natural biorhythm.
The lighting design in the neighboring production hall is realized with discreet light strips that do not visually disturb the award-winning support structure (German Engineering Award for Steel Construction 2017). Blue accent lighting during fully automated production times lends the space a special and mystical atmosphere with a focus on the future-oriented, fully automated production of goods.
In the central atrium of the building complex, the lighting design is to blend in with the architecture to a special degree: here, discreet surface-mounted spotlights on the skylight construction provide a pleasant basic brightness while still putting focus on the texture of the facades of the production and administration buildings. Floor lamps in designated areas provide cozy spaces for communication with opportunities for privacy and solitude. A central bamboo planting is emphasized through the lighting and staged as a special eye-catcher.
Basic brightness in the open-plan break rooms is provided by integrated downlights. Wallwashers and pendant luminaires above the bar tables provide further lighting accents and convey a sense of comfort for a relaxed break.
The lighting concept supports and embodies the corporate philosophy of Sartorius AG, which manifests itself in three areas: Sustainability, joy and openness. It is able to fit together perfectly with B&C’s architectural concept.
