Den Haag | Gevangenpoort
The Gevangenpoort in The Hague is a remarkable historical building that was originally built in the 13th century as the main gate of the Binnenhof (then castle of the Counts of Holland) and transformed into a prison in the 15th century. The unique transformation from defensive structure to place of confinement and justice makes the building special. The architecture reflects its medieval origins, its function as a city gate and its transformation into a prison.
Commissioned by the Municipality of The Hague, Studio DL designed a lighting design that subtly accentuates these unique architectural features of the building.
The lighting design builds on the masterplan for the city’s Museum Quarter.
