Completion of Lighting Design for Former Dudok Gas Station in Groningen

Commissioned by the Municipality of Groningen, Studio DL has created a unique lighting design for the former Dudok gas station at the Diep in Groningen. This iconic national monument, designed by the renowned architect Willem Dudok, has been redeveloped into a modern pavilion by IRIS Architects.

Studio DL’s lighting design subtly references the distinctive neon lighting that once defined the nighttime silhouette of the gas station. The design enhances the connection between the building’s heritage and the modern functions of this new meeting place.

Although the lighting still needs to be slightly dimmed, the preliminary result is very promising. The design adds a new dimension to the revitalization of this meeting space at the Diep, which has been redeveloped according to a design by landscape architect Marseille Buiten.
